Family policies
What families ask us before camp starts.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
What to wear and bring
Closed-toe shoes that can get wet, long socks, a rain shell, a brimmed hat, sunscreen already on, bug spray, a filled water bottle and a day pack. Phones, knives and lighters stay home.
Creeks, sun and water
There is no swimming at camp. Water means wading and netting at a shallow creek spot that a counselor checks that morning. Campers wear life jackets and closed shoes for every water block, counselors stand in the water, and no camper is ever near water alone. Shade and water breaks come with every block, and sunscreen goes on at home.
Drop-off and pickup
An adult on your list signs your camper out at the gate between 3:00 and 3:15 p.m. We ask for ID until we know you, and we call you if someone new is coming. Campers leave only with a person on the list. If you are running late, call us and a counselor stays with your camper.
When to keep your child home
A camper with a fever, vomiting or a contagious illness stays home and returns after a full day of being well. If a camper feels ill at camp, we call you and a counselor stays with them until you arrive.
Heat, storms and smoke
We check the sky, the forecast and the air report every morning. On hot days the field blocks move to the morning and the lab block moves inside. When thunder is heard, everyone goes inside. We text families before 7:30 a.m. if the plan changes, and if camp has to close we say so on the same text.
Meals, snacks and allergies
Lunch comes from home with a cold pack, and we share no food between campers. A snack and water are on hand in the afternoon. Tell us about allergies at registration, and we ask what we need privately.
Screens and phones
Phones stay home. A camper who needs to reach you can use the camp phone, and we call you if we need you. Counselors carry a phone and a first-aid kit in the field.
