The team

The adults in the field

A director and six counselors run the camp, and a counselor walks with every group. Here are four of them.

  • Jeric Sarmiento, camp director, in a red t-shirt on the dock, with a row of life jackets behind him

    Jeric Sarmiento

Director and soil and build lead

Jeric started Ripstop to take the science kids do in a classroom out into the weather. He runs the camp, answers the phone, leads the soil and build weeks and reads the sky with the campers each morning.

  • Emoni Hagan, creek and prairie counselor, in glasses and a field shirt with a day pack, seated on a boulder in the woods

    Emoni Hagan

    Creek and prairie counselor

Emoni leads the creek and prairie weeks. She carries the nets and the hand lenses, shows campers how to look before they touch, and keeps the species tally on the pavilion wall.

  • Bahar Kadri, weather and light counselor, in a grey hooded sweatshirt and a day pack, at the edge of the woods

    Bahar Kadri

    Weather and light counselor

Bahar runs the weather and light weeks. She builds the rain gauges with each group, checks the forecast before the circle and decides, with Jeric, when the day moves inside.

  • Ezra Bascom, build and launch counselor, in a blue t-shirt standing on the camp lawn

    Ezra Bascom

    Build and launch counselor

Ezra helps campers turn a question into something they can test: a bridge, a ramp, a tube rocket. He asks what happened, then asks what to change, and the notebook keeps the answer.

Meet the team before camp

Call and ask for a time to stop by the gate. The director is there at drop-off.
