The field kit
Pack for the creek, the prairie and the sky
Camp opens at the gate at 8:45 a.m. Label everything with your camper's first name.
Shoes that can get wet
Closed-toe, with a grip. No sandals at the creek or on the prairie.
Long socks
Pulled over pants in the tall grass, for ticks.
A rain shell
Light rain is science. Weather turns fast, so layers help.
A hat and sunscreen
A brimmed hat, and sunscreen on before you arrive.
Bug spray
Put on at home, and a small bottle in the pack for the afternoon.
A filled water bottle
Labeled, and filled before camp. We refill it at every break.
A day pack
Big enough for lunch, a jacket and a water bottle.
Lunch from home
Packed with a cold pack. We don't share food between campers, and a snack is on hand in the afternoon.
A pencil
The field notebook is ours, and a favorite pencil is yours.
Leave at home
Some things stay home
A day in the field is easier without these. If something matters to your camper, ask us first.
Phones and tablets
Knives, lighters and anything with a flame
Jewelry and anything valuable
Sandals and flip-flops
