Questions
What families ask us
What ages and weeks do you serve?
Ripstop is for ages 6 to 13, in six summer weeks from late June to early August. Each week has its own theme, and campers can book one week or several.
What is a day like?
Camp opens at the gate at 8:45 a.m. We start with the weather and the question of the day, spend the morning outside on a field block, eat lunch from home in the shade, write in our notebooks, and spend the afternoon on a lab or build block. Pickup is from 3:00 to 3:15 p.m.
What do we bring?
A day pack with lunch, a filled water bottle, a rain shell, a hat, closed-toe shoes that can get wet, long socks and bug spray. Sunscreen goes on at home.
What happens in rain, heat or a storm?
We check the sky and the forecast every morning. Light rain is science, so campers come in rain shells. On hot days the outdoor blocks move to the morning and shade and water come with every block. When thunder is heard, we go inside and wait before going back out. We text families before 7:30 a.m. if the plan changes.
What is a creek day?
Campers wade and net at a shallow spot a counselor has checked that morning, in life jackets and closed shoes, with counselors in the water. We count, sketch and put every animal back.
How does pickup work, and who may collect my camper?
An adult on your list signs your camper out at the gate between 3:00 and 3:15 p.m. We ask for ID until we know you, and we call you if someone new is coming. Campers leave only with a person on the list.
How does tuition work?
We don't print tuition on this site, because it depends on the weeks you book. It is set by the number of weeks and which ones, and we are glad to go through it by phone.
How do I hold a place, and what is the waitlist?
A place is held once we have your registration and a first payment. When a week is full, join the waitlist on the registration page. We offer places in the order families joined and call you when one opens.
What do you do about allergies and medicine?
Tell us at registration, and we ask what we need privately. Please don't put medical details in this site's forms.
Does my camper need to know science already?
No. Every week starts from a question and a notebook, and campers work at their own pace. Older campers and younger campers work at the same stations on different questions.
Not finding your question?
